Ramkumar Ramanathan ranked World No.-222 stunned World No.-8 Dominic Thiem in the pre-quarter finals of the Antalya Open in Turkey. He defeated the top seed 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets. This is the biggest win of his career. It is the first time Ramkumar faced a top-10 player in his career. It is a rare occurrence of an Indian defeating a player ranked in the top-10 of the ATP rankings.
In 1998, Leander Paes had beaten Pete Sampras, who was ranked World No.-2 at that time.
It should be a boost to the Indian men’s single players.
